What is the difference between Air Force Pararescue and the Navy SEALs?

My friend and I got in an argument over who was better the SEALs or Pararescue. Could anyone compare and contrast the two groups, for example, what missions they go on, their main job as a group, and other factors?

Mainly, PJs go into combat to rescue friendly personnel (hence the word “rescue” in their name). Their motto is something like, “so that others may live”. SEALs are tasked with specific missions that target the enemy.

I think PJs are the guys who fell off the helicopter during an insertion which basically started the whole Blackhawk Down chain of events. So I would have to go with the SEALS.

First of all, you and your friend are retarded for having the “who’s better?” fight about special operations forces. You’re at least aware that they each play a different role and all work to complement one another. One team, one fight. Other answers have outlined their roles pretty well. PJs rescue friendly personnel that is injured and recover KIAs. SEALs generally perform extremely aggressive direct action.

You’d be much better served trying out a PJ or SEAL prep workout with your time rather than blowing hot air about which is “better.” Those debates never do anything constructive.
