Will this set off airport security and what should i do?

Basically i had bone cancer in my right leg and have had many of the bones replaced with titanium prosthesis’s. They are under my skin and muscle (not an amputation) and i was wondering whether or not they would set of the metal detectors?
If they do, do i need to bring anything with me to tell them, and if i do, what do i need to bring? (:
Thanks in advance. Emily.

Before you go through the metal detector, tell the security team that you have the titanium prostheses. They may pat you down or use a wand over the non-bionic parts of your body.

if you bring proof like a note from your doctor saying that you DO actually have titanium prosthesis’s then they shouldn’t bother you.

Maybe you could wear shorts so they can see that there is nothing under your clothes that could potentially be a threat to the running of the air craft? Just an idea and I don’t know their exact protocol. Good luck.

I lost my leg to cancer, so it’s a bit easier to me. Wear skirts or shorts and don’t wear my cosmetic cover. If I’m wearing pants or have my skin-like cover on I tell people before had so they are aware.

in your case where you have an internal prosthesis, you best bet would be to have your doctor write you a note you can keep on hand for travel. 9 times out of 10 you won’t need it. let the security guard know that there is metal in your leg prior to going though the metal detector.

You are suppoed to be screened by someone of the same gender. usually they will scan you, pat down your leg and send you on your way. they may ask to to additional swabs of your hands for eplosives.
    It isn’t that scary.
