    All are used in statistics. Standard deviation is used in the 68-95-99.7 percentiles and correlates to Z-Scores. Range is the range of the data set. Sums of squares is used to find the least squares regression line (line of best fit, y-hat = a + bx) and variance is the discrepancy.
