   I can only assume severe psychiatric issues.

   I dont know why people do it. Its pretty freaky. Its like that man who shot his wife and daughter before burning the house down. Its sad. I can’t understand why someone wants to do it

   the more they put these stories on the news,the more people are going to get that idea in there head that its what they should do to get out the situation they are in. but its not what they should do. there is always a light at the end of the tunnel,and there is no problem that cant be solved.

   I would say that in most cases it is down to severe depression and mental illness. The recent case of a father killing his children is just one of many. It is incredibly sad but it should highlight mental health issues and the desperation it causes to do such things. No one in their right mind takes the lives of their children but we simply do not know the background of this couple’s relationship. Sometimes, it is a control issues “if I can’t see the children, neither will you” but for others, it is a genuine belief that you are taking your children to a better place.

    Personally, I think it is a mental disorder that induces anyone to kill ANYONE, not least their own children.

    But do not despair, there are really no statistical increases in this sort of thing, you’re just noticing it more. It’s always happened, and always will happen, until/unless the scientists can find a way to detect and eliminate the causes, whatever they may be.

    with men it is the fear of losing control after a break up with the mother…they want the children as they see them as their possessions, they cant have them so make damn sure that the mother cant have them and intend her to suffer for the rest of her life because she made the mistake of leaving .
    With women it is usually emotional and often involves disabled children, the mother cant cope anymore. The latest case is different , seems that she just couldn’t handle the shame of having a disabled child..which is horrific.

    there are some sad tragic cases, you would think that if someone was that down, they should kill themselves and leave their children to live their lives, do they think that they wont cope without them?

    maybe you didn’t notice, but both print and tv news are really hurting industries, and lurid stuff like that gets viewers!

    as to your original question, mental illness is a pretty common thread among the perpetrators.

    There are 350,000,000 people in the US. It would take a LOT of dead kids to be indicative of a trend.

    Historically, and naturally, infanticide etc., are not uncommon. Violence is a common product of stress, and for the 40,000+ years of modern human existence murder has not been uncommon.
    There is a great deal of precedence for the murder of children. I am NOT it any way justifying it, I am just saying that it is inexplicable or a modern aberration.

    If there is a trend of increase in the murders of children I would look at the stressors that are affecting all of us. If there is a link to poverty, then these murders have a STRONG precedence throughout 40,000+ years of modern humanity. Poor parents, human and animal both, are prone to killing their offspring in times of paucity.

    However, I believe that these stories are just a symptom of rampant capitalism; just new hounds selling people what they want, even if it’s the cultural equivelent of meth.

    It’s quite simple, and I DEMAND my ten points. They do it to teach their erstwhile spouse a DAMN GOOD LESSON–to make them feel as GUILTY as POSSIBLE for the rest of their life.

    It’s to transfer as much pain as physically possible to the “family-wrecker”, basically. Never-ending pain, until death.

    I’m talking, of course, about the recent case of the chap killing his kids THEN himself, and similar cases.
