I would say the best bet is Facebook because I read a statistic the other day that there are more users of facebook in South Africa then the states (whether I believe it or not is another story). The other site you can try is http://www.sareunited.com. Good luck!

Facebook sareunited.co.za and Myspace would be my first choice, other possible sites would be schoolfriends.co.za and http://phonebook.yellowpages.co.za/ That is if he has a phone or the people he lives with.
