What is cardiac arrhythmia and how can water intoxication cause it?

Looking up Andy Warhol on Wikipedia and remembering he’d said next time he went into a hospital he’d died, I noticed that he seemed to have died from cardiac arrhythmia and that his family sued the hospital because the arrhythmia was cause by “water intoxication”.

Is that the same thing some people have died of when they have drunk inordinate amounts of water?

    Hi Aleida,

Water intoxication is a state when there is too much water in the circulatory system. It upsets the electrolyte balance. For the heart to function properly it must have the right amounts of all electrolytes like sodium, calcium, potassium, and magnesium.

Cardiac arrhythmia or abnormally spaced heart contractions can be caused by electrolyte imbalances.
