If McJobs build character and self respect as the Cons say, maybe every job should pay minimum wage to start?
Imagine the enormous character and self esteem ALL AMERICANS would have! And the CEO’s could then be adequately rewarded for the increase in profits, WIN-WIN for everyone!

Maybe every job should pay only tips to start. A lot of young people start with waiting tables, too.
I think that you are missing the point. What kid is supporting himself at 16? Most kids don’t even have to pay their own car insurance. My parents made us get our own cars and pay our own car insurance and that meant we went to work. We didn’t buy a house or pay utilities, but we did learn to work.
Oh, and since then, I’ve spent $130k on a BS and a JD. And you can bite me.

Why not??? Can you imagine the character being built and self respect low wage earners will have when the Conservatives get their wish to lower or completely abolish federal Minimum wage standards? Imagine the self respecting characters we’d have in the food lines then…

Every job shouldn’t pay minimum wage because not every job is a starter job, but most people start out with starter jobs when they first enter the work force. That’s where character can be built when one learns how to manage their finances and learns a work ethic that will further their goals.
However, it seems that that basic understanding of the economy is no longer taught in schools. Now everyone thinks they should be handed a good job or be taken care of by the gov’t.
