How to convert old VHS tapes to DVD and save on computer?

I want to transfer my old VHS tapes to my Dell laptop and also burn them onto DVDs.
What things do I need to do that?

    Long way:

Connect the VCR to the computer via USB connection either using a Dazzle least expensive and easy to connect to a laptop without demanding lot of the computer.

There are other devices like EasyCap yet they allow a lesser grade of video it comes in at 640X480 which is less than one would like it does cost less however you get less.

The faster way is get a DVD Recorder (I know I say this a lot its just easier) connect a VHS player to a DVD Recorder press play and then start recording on the DVD side. You dont need to buy a fancy model either look at a lower end model the have the same machine parts as the higher end models yet lacking in playing Divx and other features.

You own a Dell if you import turn off all the background programs as Dell, Toshiba and others have System programs running like Dell desktop software. Also go to My Computer right click go to Properties then choose from the tabs Advanced and then choose under Performance and click Settings then click the one titled ‘Adjust for best performance’ it runs far smoother with video editing programs.

So your choices are import to the computer then convert it to a DVD and then burn it (Dazzle and other devices have their own software so you dont need any third party software that many will say buy this and that), the other is connect it to a DV Recorder.
