Do you agree with the Obama administration on education and for his stand against the teachers union?

I could not agree with him more on this subject.

I am just curious as to why the media did not support Republican efforts when they tried to put the teachers union on notice, and they have many, many times. Republicans even went so far as to give vouchers to children because they could not get any support from Democrats to stand up to the teachers union.

Why are Democrats finally standing up to the teachers union, and why did they not support Republican efforts to do the same over the last 20 years?
Pixie, Interesting. My husband said the same thing.

Only democratic presidents can put unions on notice.

Likewise, only R-tard ones can exhort businesses to hire more people even when it is obvious they already need to.

Obama lies- he won’t do anything to make education better. Obama wants people to be dumb so they keep voting for progressives and him. Obama wants drugs coming in America and that is why he stopped building the fence to keep out Drug cartels- to make people dumber.
If he said anything against Teachers unions- it was just talk.

not sure how you get the idea he is standing up against teachers unions.
    Maybe you don’t understand much.
saying poor performing teachers have to go really isn’t standing up to them.
Did you not see where he mentioned schools needed more funding?

maybe you should consider what happens when you employ better help… oh yeah they have a reason to demand higher wages.

90% of learning is the responsibility of the student, as most right-wingers on here seem to be grand examples of that failure.

I am a teacher and I am against the teachers union in many aspects. It is a much too powerful union. Too many teachers are getting a free-ride when they are terrible at teaching. I have seen many simply sit at their desk and read a newspaper.

Our education system is obviously not functioning properly. To just sweep all the problems under the rug and act like nothing is wrong is simply evil. The future generations of America depend on an education that can compete with others around the world. We need to step it up.

I think that if you are going to pay teachers $800 a month they definitely need a union but if you pay them what they deserve $5000- $7000 then the union is needless…

No. Without the teachers union, teachers would be making minimum wage while they perform and are responsible for our children’s education and helping them acclimate into the real world.

People with the most responsible jobs are paid nothing. Without the teachers union, we wouldn’t have people go into teaching at what they would be paid.

He has?? I’ll have to go back and do a little research, but it seems to me to be a political stunt as your assertion goes against every fiber of his Marxist little being.

It’s just more talk without action.

Lengthening the school year isn’t going to do any good unless the extended instruction has substance.
Students today deal with stupid busy work projects that waste their time. The educational system keep going back and forth about how much homework a student should get. It changes from a few hours a day, to the student having to work until 1:00 a.m. on his or her assignment.

“We don’t understand why today’s school children are under so much stress.”

Nothing of value is being taught in schools today, it’s light on science, math and geography. They also have done away with arts and music, and are working on physical education.

Maybe we should go back to the way things were done in the 1940’s and 1950’s. Back then we won wars, and education took us to the moon and back, with many innovations in flight. Today, we have teachers that can’t locate their own state on a US map.

I’ve also seen it, as with other unions where the really good teachers are threatened, and the bad ones are allowed to coast through.

I disagree with 0bama on this one because he is TARGETING an underpaid, overworked, and over-stressed profession. Dog walkers are paid more than licensed teachers! I would agree that tenure needs reevaluation, but otherwise I couldn’t disagree more with 0bama on this. Instead of firing shots at the teachers and unions 0bama should be reevaluating the school breakfasts and lunches that get thrown into the trash daily by students whose parents are not even paying the bill, you and me, the tax payers are paying for this waste. Kids throw their complete meals in the trash and whip out a 20-dollar from their 150-dollar name brand shoes. After school programs, transportation, extracurricular activities, special needs, etc………. then when the student falls behind it’s always the teacher’s fault, never the parent or the child, but always the teacher. Teachers are required to spend most of the classroom time managing behavior emotional disorders, babysitting, referreeing, entertaining, etc……… and if there is time to actually teach between all the special extracurricular programs and interruptions then it’s a rare moment! Not to mention having to spend most of the time teaching kids to pass an end-of-grade standardized test to make the school look good, but they fail to mention the extra attention and help the students receive to pass these tests, like a teacher serving as the student’s scribe during writing skills assessment; this is simply bull! I am all for meeting special needs of exceptional children but parents need to do their part without threatening to sue the school if their little angel cusses and throws tantrums and chairs and endangers other students requiring the teacher to seek assistance removing the student in order to protect the other students in the classroom.

Oh, I could go on and on and on………………

I think as usual your media is oversimplifying things and twisting around statements. This is what the right wing talk media lives on.
Teachers unions are part of the equation of how our kids get educated – sure they need to be discussed in any frank talks about improving education.
To try to turn this into some sort of blanket condemnation is just ridiculous, and not what they said if you even cared to look.

Let me make it clear, Obama is backing up teachers just so that teachers dont quit or get fired because if this starts happening thousands of children will be uneducated, and since Bush has been president education in U.S has declined more bums on the streets.
what obama is doing is vital for americas future in maintaining its power against rising nations like China, India other nations.
i think obama is investing on the future by keeping teachers and inspiring young people to go to school.
Im from N.Z and we LOVE Obama if you guys dont want him give him to us!!!
