Aside from fundamentalists, don’t most normal Christians believe in evolution and the Big Bang theory?

I’m not a Christian myself’ but the great majority of my Christian friends believe in evolution and the Big Bang. So why does it seem when you look at this site or watch Christian programming on TV that it appears otherwise? Are fundamentalists simply more vocal?

No one has the right to call themself a Christian if they believe in the lie of evolution, period!

Evolution is a direct slap in the face of God and His creation.

Let’s not forget that Obama calls himself a Christian and we all know he’s a muslim

you know most atheists have a problem with the big bang theory. so i doubt it.

Apparently most ‘normal’ christians believe in evolution

that’s by number and by denomination….. once you take the USA out of the equation, most christians are quite ‘normal’

  7. RoB said :

Most ‘christians’ are that by name and culture only. They go to church because that’s what they’ve been brought up to do. They probably don’t live a very ‘christian’ life, and they probably don’t read the bible. These are the semi-rational christians who can see that evolution is not something you ‘believe in’, it’s a fact supported by mountain of evidence.

All Christians believe GOD’S word over the worlds. So, no. No true Christian believes in the BBT

The Vatican does. But you can’t make generalizations on whole groups of people. Every single Christian believes something different.

Technically, Christians aren’t normal to begin with: our lifestyle doesn’t fit the modern world’s norm.

…And as for the remarks about how a person cannot believe in evolution and the Big Bang and still be a Christian, well Christianity has just shrunk to less that a 100 from 2.8 billion, well done

    Yes.
Which means absolutely nothing — “belief” is worthless, and is a function of ignorance, not informed decision making.

Only about 12% of christians worldwide reject the science showing evolution and the “big bang” correct. It’s a tiny minority.

    Peace.

I think it depends where you look. If you go to a church and start asking around, sadly i think you’ll find most of them don’t believe in evolution. But if you go to like a university chapel, or to a Christian group that consists mostly of university students (i.e people with modern science education, not like science from 1960s or 1970s) then they generally do believe in evolution. They will say that evolution is operated by God behind it.

Christians believe in bible, and should any christians talk about evolution & big bang, it is simply because we were fed with those lies during our school days when we were still naive and had not read / understood the bible fully.

If you have read the bible, you will have no doubt about God, and you will loath those wasted school days when you were fed with those lies of evolution and big bang.

Furthermore, most atheists are having problems having their faith in evolution and big bang either, however because there is no other alternative, atheists will just swallow those faith of lies anyway.

No, That would be called Theistic Evolution, For those who hold to the Bible as the word of God, theistic evolution should not be a viable option. The Bible says, “Know that the LORD is God. It is he who made us…” (Psalm 100:3). The Scriptures state that God created. God said, “Let there be…” and there was. The Scriptures speak of the creative word of God. When God speaks, it occurs. He said “Let there be” and it was so. It does not say, “Let there be a slow development through an evolutionary process.”

God said in Genesis 1:26, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” The Hebrew word for “make” in this verse, and in verse 25 where God makes the beasts, is “asah.” It means to do, work, make, produce. This is not simply the limited Hebrew understanding of evolutionary principles.

The land animals were made differently than man. The animals were made from the ground, but man was made directly by God: “the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being” (Gen. 2:7). Evolution states that man evolved from life forms that developed in the ocean. Here, God made man from the dust of the ground–not the water of the ocean.

If evolution is true and the Bible is true, then how is the formation of Eve explained? She was created out of one of Adam’s ribs (Gen. 2:22). There is no way to explain this if theistic evolution is true; that is, unless you want to say that Eve wasn’t made from Adam’s side. Then, if you do that, you are doubting the very word of God.

Also, Jesus said in Mark 10:6 “But at the beginning of creation God ‘made them male and female.'” The beginning was not evolutionary slime; in the beginning of creation there was Adam and Eve.

Though this information is brief and far from complete, it should be obvious that theistic evolution and the Scriptures cannot be harmonized.

Only biblical literalists and American conservatives who really hate college professors deny evolution. Most other Christians in the world, taking the Bible as a metaphorical document, believe that evolution is a construct of God.

As of this century, there seems to be two types of Christians (I’m not talking about the specifics: Catholics, Lutherans, etc.): the Christians and the Christian-Atheists.

A Christian-Atheist is defined as one who believes in God, but acts as though he doesn’t exist. As though they lead two different lives (one with God in front of some people, one with without God with others). It’s like they slip on their Christian shoes and then their other shoes whenever it is fitting. These are probably the ones who are not all that strong in their faith and are therefore more susceptible to believing in evolution due to lack of information on the subject (I’m not saying that ALL believe in it, many in fact do not).

As for the rest of us Christians, we do not believe in evolution because there is plenty of evidence in the Bible. Science supports the Bible. The Flood can explain many of the things today such as the Grand Canyon (heck, look at the amount of damage Mt. St. Helens did after exploding…and that was only ONE volcano).

The Big Bang Theory is incorrect because in Genesis in the Bible, it says God created the heavens and the earth on the first day, and he created the stars and moon and sun on the fourth day.

So it all depends on the person and their faith whether they believe in evolution or the Big Bang theory.

Real Evolution means the progress of the soul, not the body. Evolution governs the progress of the soul. It is not the body which evolves but the soul. This is what scientists do not understand. If you really want to learn the truth about evolution and creation, you will need to do some extensive reading…..I would also suggest this simple little book with superb insight, ‘Life Comes From Life’. The Padma Purana also accepts evolution, but not as explained by Darwin. The Gita also accepts the universal law of ‘cause and effect’ or ‘action and reaction’ but not as explained by Newton. Einstein’s theory of relativity has proven mathematically what the Vedas have explained ages ago. The difference between science and religion is that science is only able to explain partial truth while religion explains the whole truth. Besides, how can we live in this world which is so complex and where everything is so magnificently interwoven together and yet credit it to mere science and evolution? It is only too obvious that there is an omniscient brain, a mastermind, genius brilliantine behind creation. If there is a grand design (as scientists also accept), then it is common sense that there’s got to be a grand designer!!!! Einstein once said, “When I read the Bhagavad Gita and reflect about how God created this universe, everything else seems so superfluous”.

    Yes they are.
Those cult leaders have their own political agenda, and are misleading many people of faith who have been brainwashed. It’s very sad.

They hold our faith to unnecessary and unwarranted ridicule. Evolution IS “the divine design.”

Wow. Fundamentalists are destroying Christianity. Yes, the majority of Christians accept science as a revelation of God’s power.

Not only are they undereducated and ignorant, but their cult leaders are evil.
Their lies only serve to alienate potential converts from accepting Christianity because their distorted views make ALL Christians look ignorant and out of touch. So they are in fact, seeking to destroy Christianity. And they are indeed purveyors of non-truth:
    Here’s a sample:
They must know that misusing the word “theory” to imply “hypothesis” is incorrect. In science, all major “theories” (evolution, gravity, relativity, etc.) refer to the first definition listed in the dictionary, “1. A set of propositions describing the operation and causes of natural phenomena,” yet they deliberately equate the “theory” of evolution to that of an unproven hypothesis. This is clearly a lie. Evil? Or do they just not know how to use a dictionary?

Look at their supposed “experts.” For one, Andrew Snelling, Ph.D. in geology from Australia, routinely publishes in scientific journals, and then turns around and publishes the exact OPPOSITE information on creationist websites, like that of his fellow Aussie friend, Ken Ham (“answersingenesis”). That’s clearly lying. Anyone schooled in geology can see that his “creationist” publications are total garbage. Since he’s not ignorant, and lying is evil, then he surely is evil.

Also, their cult leaders deliberately falsify the translation of Genesis 1 & 2, while claiming they are interpreting it “literally.” Respected Judaic & Christian scholars agree that since ancient Hebrew had only 8700 vocabulary words, many words had multiple meanings. For example, “Yom” (day) also means “period of time” (i.e. a billion + years); and “evening and morning” also means “beginning and ending” (i.e. end of one period, beginning of another); yet the YEC cult leaders maintain only their own totally illogical interpretation is correct.

These are just a few examples.
