Any very good and informative books or websites about Islam?

I don’t think I can manage to just pick up a copy of the Koran and read it easily. Are their any books or websites that explain the ideologies clearly and simply for someone who doesn’t currently know much about Islam but is interested in learning about it?

Good and Islam in the same sentence just doesn’t fit well.

Any book detailing the roots and intricacies of evil should suffice.

I would recommend the book “No God But God”, written by Reza Aslan.
I read the german translation of it and it’s really interesting.

The book tells the story of Muhammad and the origins of Islam and also explains some misunderstandings. And it’s written by a muslim.

    Really you should read it.

http://www.islamreligion.com is in my opinion, by far, the best. Not only do they provide a wide variety of articles and video’s for most things you want to search, but they provide live chat assistance, and you can talk one-to-one with a knowledgeable Muslim 🙂

The best book you can learn Islam is the Holy Quran , so I suggest you to start with Holy Quran

Also you can find books of Hadis (Saying of Prophet Muhammaded Peace be upon him) , I donot know any online source so cannot help you in this.

    Now coming to other field

I will have to agree with Lukas B.
‘No Got but God’ By Aslan is the most broadminded and educational book written by a Muslim. A few things the author wrote can be argued but generally he is right on target.
Muslims and non Muslims alike will gain much knowledge and understanding of Islam by reading this book. A must read.

If you want first hand knowledge of life in Saudi Arabia, you should read ‘Inside the Kingdom’ by Carmen Ben Ladin. It’s a very honest review of women living in Saudi Arabia.
    Happy reading.

@Simple Truth : The book by Carmen bin Ladin is outdated. Life has change a lot in KSA in the last few years. I have been living there for the last (almost) 6 years … and subhaan Allaah … how the people are changing here.

The Qur’an. It’s like the Bible. They are translated into English. You should be able to find one in any bookstore. Anything else about the religion is simply opinion. I have a copy and I am Catholic.

Also El, Jewish People, Catholic’s, Christians and Islam all recognize the same God. It is the God of Abraham. They are called Abrahamic Religions. It covers just over 4 billion people of the 6.8 Billion people on Earth. Peace. 🙂

Sorry about you not being able to pick one up, but the quran is the only way for you to get unbiased and pure information about islam. The scholars and websites are good but not great because sometimes they get their own opinions mixed up with the religion, same with the hadiths.
