Why is Ben Roethlisberger not considered on the level with Manning and Brady?

the steelers werent nearly as good without him. and those clutch passes against the Jets iced the win. Manning is suspect in the clutch and Brady had a great defense when he won his.

They were pretty good without him. They were 3-1, only loss was by three points to Baltimore. That’s .750, same as the Steelers were WITH Roethlisberger.

Ben definitely poses some unique advantages the way he extends plays and is a great fit for the team. However, check his stats in some of those games. He played horribly in the super bowl against Seattle, and he had something like a 35 qb rating in the game against the jets. I guess when you win ugly, its not as appreciated. If it makes you feel any better, I live in the Detroit area and would gladly take the ugly wins and 2 super bowls he has helped bring to Pittsburgh.

Simply because he wins ugly. But who care, he wins

Roethlisberger had a great defense and running game when he won his. I think his problem is that he doesn’t pass a whole lot, so he doesn’t get the big season-long numbers that Peyton and Brady get. And defenses have to key in on the Pittsburgh running game, which allows Roethlisberger more room to make throws. But when Ben does throw, he does it extremely well. I’m hesitant to put him with Manning and Brady, but he’s definitely right below them in Philip Rivers territory.

The reason he isn’t considered as “great” is because he doesn’t have the statistical numbers to go along with Brady and Manning, outside of super bowls, obviously.

The Steelers aren’t as good without him, you’re right, but they were still good. They won, what, four without him I think…? And he too has an outstanding defense, as you said Brady had…the number ONE defense [this year] in fact. And I’m pretty sure their D was still ranked higher than the Pats the years NE won. And if not, they were very close.

It also doesn’t help the fact he’s been accused of raping girls a couple times. The media and the like don’t tend to cover those types of players as much, if you haven’t noticed.

The steelers have always been known for their defense so its is easy to overlook Ben. Also, they are a run 1st team so Ben plays a secondary role on the offensive side. He makes too mamy mistakes that the defense has to save him on to make him a great quarterback. Tom Brady may have a great defense too, but his td to int ratio is a lot better. And peyten doesn’t have a great defense, so all the pressure is on him.

    Peyton = greatest ever

because Fantasy Football geeks cant handle him not getting 300 yds and 3 TDs every week

so nerdy statistical logic = Ben Sucks

@ the first guy – the Patriots were good when Brady missed a season

Because Manning and Brady dont rape 16 year old girls at night clubs.

    Basically three reasons:

    1. Roethlisberger doesn’t have the statistical markers of greatness that Manning and Brady do. He makes things happen, but he doesn’t rack up 4,000 years and 25 TDs on a yearly basis.

    2. Roethlisberger plays in Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh is a team that has been built on running and on defense. As such, their QBs will always be downplayed because they are second fiddle on their own team… unlike San Diego, New England, Indianapolis and New Orleans, where the offense is the main attraction.

    3. Roethlisberger plays in Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh has a long and proud tradition of Football in the Super Bowl era. Brady and Manning took franchises that had little or no success and made them elite programs. Indianapolis has never made an appearance in the Superbowl, and the Patriots had two AFC titles (one getting crushed by the Bears in 85, the other getting outplayed by Brett Favre Green Bay interception tour).

Because he doesn’t put up the numbers of a Brady or Manning. The Steelers take a different approach to winning than the Colts and Patriots. They have the same philosophy as the Ravens, they spend their money on defense, and give their offense enough talent to move the ball and score a fair amount of points. Look at their team, they really never have anybody making it to the Pro Bowl except for defensive players, but they continue to win with their philosophy.

Many people do consider Big Ben on the level with Manning and Brady. Only haters don’t. Sure Roethlisberger doesn’t put up the numbers or stats like Peyton and Tom Terrific, but all Ben has done since he has been in the league is win, win, win. In fact, he is top five in the history of the NFL in winning percentage as a starting quarterback. I could argue that as a clutch QB Roethlisberger is much more clutch than Manning ever was. Ben is 10-2 in the playoffs. Peyton is 9-10 for his career in the post season. Unlike most QBs, only Big Ben might be the only one who can post a 35 QB rating and still win games.

Should the Steelers win the Super Bowl, he will have just as many rings as Brady does. He will have more rings than the entire Manning family. I still will rate Brady ahead of Ben, but at this point he is ahead of Peyton Manning and his little brother combined.

@ Chad C, and Jack the Nole

Jack, Peyton Manning 9-10 Post Season, 2 Super Bowl appearances in 13 years, 1 ring

Ben 10-2 post season, 3 Super Bowl Appearances in 7 seasons, 2 rings and maybe a 3rd.

    Chad
What is Tony Romeo’s Super Bowl Passer Rating?
Also, I guess Ben’s epic game winning 82 yd drive at the end of SB XLIII vs Arizona was because of the refs.
You must have forgotten that the refs gave the Cards a safety just before that when Ben completed a huge pass to Holmes out of the endzone which could have ran out the clock.
Instead it gave Arizona 2 points and a free kick which ended up setting up the Cards go a head score.
Then on the first play of the game winning drive they called Pittsburgh for holding.
Yeah the refs were really looking out for the Steelers late in SB XLIII.
As for SB XL, Ben’s passer rating didn’t show all the first down runs, passes he completed under pressure while avoiding sacks.
Just like vs the Jets the other day his rating was 35 but he still was a key reason Pittsburgh won.

Those other QBs you mentioned all have ONE ring, Ben has TWO, and they only managed the game during the playoffs and reg season, where as Ben takes the team on his back all year long.
It must really y hurt to know Pittsburgh has now tied the only NFL record Dallas had that mattered which is 8 SB appearances.Pittsburgh also surpassed dallas in division crowns since the merger with 20 and Conference championship game appearances with 15.
Keep crying it only makes it more amusing.
Not to mention they will be playing on your field Feb. 6th.

First of all New England went 11-5 with Matt Cassell in 2008

Ben’s career YPA is actually better than Manning and Brady’s and is considered by many experts as the most telling stat for a QB.
He actually has one more perfect passer game than Brady and only one less than Manning.
He passed for 5003 yds vs of all teams, the GB Packers, just last season and became only the 10th QB to have a 500 yd game in NFL history and only the 3rd with 500 yds, 3 TDs and no ints.
Neither Brady or Manning are in either that 10 or 3.

Ben wins, plain and simple. He’s 10-2 in the post season and has intangibles that Brady and Manning do not have with his size, strength and escape ability.
He also doesn’t cry to the refs like women the way Brady and Manning do.

Mike Wilbon of PTI on ESPN stated years ago that he would pick Ben over both Brady or Manning if starting a team to build around a QB.

he is a top 10 qb but thats it. He had a 22.6 rating in the Seattle Super Bowl and has been handed 2 championships from the officials. The only ones that dont agree are their fans of course. Championships mean nothing to individuals. Its a team sport. Jeff Hostetler, Jim Mcmahon, Brad Johnson, Doug Williams and Trent Dilfer are not better then Dan Marino and Jim Kelly. Rex Grossman almost won a ring for that matter. Team sport, team win

Because his numbers aren’t as good and he’s not as smooth. Does he win? Yeah. But like another user said, they’re ugly wins.

Manning against the Jets 3rd and 6 pass to Blair White to ice the game DROP! Roethlisberger vs Jets 3rd and 6 pass to Brown no drop. Manning has problems all across the team come playoff time. You think Peyton could pass for 100 yards no tds and 2 ints and win in the playoffs? No way son. That’s the difference. Aaron Rodgers against Packers. Zero tds, 2 ints. Actually, Peyton was the only qb this postseason to not throw an int against the Jets. 108 passer rating and they still lose. The Colts are soft, and Brady is miles above Berger. Teams win rings sir, and the Steelers are a great one.

    His stats aren’t as great.
    His team frankly outshines him.
    He’s younger.
He’s had a good dish of controversy.

In comparison, the other two get better stats and are more relied upon by their teams.

Also, /disagree. Steelers did fine without him.
