Not a whole lot. You ovulate one day a month but the egg can live inside of you for a few days. So the ovulation day would be the day that you ovulate and the fertile days would be the days that the egg is still viable in your body.

you ovulate about 14 days before your period is due. That is only a textbook suggestion, every woman is differnt – you may be off consistently by a few days plus or minus, or you might be very irregular. Without tests, you would not know for sure.
Sperm can live in the uterus waiting for the egg for 2 or 3 days, possibly up to 5. The egg will die if not fertizied within a day or so. So ovulation lasts maybe 2 days or so.
So your fertile days are good days to have sex – or bad days, depending on what you are trying to (not) accomplish. From about 4 days before ovulation to a day or two after you are fertile, and unprotected sex could result in pregnancy.
The rule of thumb is that if egg and sperm are together that month, the odds of pregnancy “catching” are bout 1 in 4 (for a woman under 30). However, every woman, every pregnancy is different; some get pregnant first and only time, some take months or years. Which type are you? Only one way to find out.
OTOH, ovulation could happen way off schedule; the human body can do odd things. If it does, how would you know unless you get one of those 9-month souvenirs? Couples using the calendar for birth control are often called “parents”.
Use protection every time.
