What is the difference between a stun gun and a tazer?

From what I know, a tazer shoots a bolt of electricity to a somewhat distance … and a stun gun has 2 probes through which electricity passes but I need some more info on that.
I’ve recently bought a stun gun and just got curious about whether 3000000 volts would be enough to leave an attacker immobilized.
And also how long should the stun gun be used on an attacker so it would not be fatal?

tazer has two wires and a stun gun is close contact probe

A Tazer fires a set of “darts” connected with thin wires. The wires conduct electricity to the person you hit.

A stun gun works in the same way, but does not have the wires or the means to fire them. Many Tasers have a cartridge that can be removed, and expose the contacts. In that configuration, it can probably be used as a stun gun.

Both items have a timeout to them. They won’t go past a certain length of time on their activation. Serves as both a safety to the person individual you’ve targeted, and keeps the equipment from becoming non functional.

Hawk Eye provides a pretty good response. In addition to his explanation, the Taser CAN be used with the darts in the cartridge as well as like a Stun gun. In other words the taser has the capability to work in the same manner as a stun gun.

The Taser only produces what FEELS like 50K volts yet operates off of a 9 volt battery.

A stun gun, regardless of how powerful, will not immobilize someone. It only creates pain at the point of contact.

In order to immobilize someone, you need to create a condition called “muscular disruption”. When this happens, all the muscles in your body lock up, preventing voluntary movement. For this to occur, there has to be a distance of several inches between the points of contact.

Electricity will always follow the path of least resistance. With a taser or stun gun, this will be the area between the two contact points. The stun gun has fixed contact points, so the distance needed for muscular disruption can not be created. The taser fires two probes. The further away you are, the more separation you get, so you can get the distance needed for muscular disruption.

Close to the same technology. Taser is a name brand. Most stun guns will only cause pain on the person and not immobilize them. With the Taser you are shooting two small darts connected to wires. This gives a wider distance for the electricity to pass through thus disrupting more muscles and immobilizing the subject. A taser can also be used as a drive stun without the air cartridge and metal probes. This would be closer to a stun gun as it only disrupts the muscle’s between the probes.
As far as how long to use the stun gun: Only until the threat is gone. Usually after getting hit the bad guy will back down.

The probes on a stun gun are close. They do not cause large muscles to get involved. The stun gun stun usually makes people pull away. To immobilize someone you would have to hold the activated stun gun on most people for at least 10 full seconds, a long time. Most stun guns do not have and automatic cut off. Stuns longer than a few seconds cause burns. The number of volts is a marketing scheme. Makes little to no difference.

Taser shoots barbs attached by wires to the source. The barbs are aimed so the separate, The barbs are supposed to cause the jolt to go through a lot of muscle mass. When it does the person usually is immobilized. Taser turns off after 5 seconds adn can be turned off sooner or extended manually.
The cartridge that held the probes can be removed and it now becomes a stun gun. Used mostly in close quarters and helps to get bad guy to pull away or if on the ground fighting can be held long enough to get them to stop from the pain.Taser calls this a “drive stun” Everyone I know, including myself, who has been stunned describes it as feeling like being stabbed.
Getting hit by the taser feels different, not near as painful.

A “Taser” is a brand of ECD (electronic control device) that is capable of projecting two probes connected to two wires that deliver the electricity.
A stun gun is a generic term used to describe any device that uses electricity to “shock” someone.

Well, the main difference is the distance of effectivity. Obviously, a taser shoots farther which a stun gun should be used in a close combat.

A 3M volt stun guns is sufficient enough to immobilize a person depending on the condition of a person, whether he can tolerate much pain or not.

Since stun guns are self defense weapons, they could never be fatel. The most that it could do is to inflict excruciating pain upon a person being “stunned”.
