(best answer will be chosen) What is the best way to record keyboard and voice onto computer?

What is the best way to hook up a mike so I can record my singing as well as my piano playing? should I do it through my piano or straight through my computer? Also would it be better to hook the computer and keyboard up a different way say through the AUX input and out put?
I am currently using a cable from the headphone jack on my keyboard to my computer and using Audacity to record the piano. But when I do that I can’t hear my piano. Do you know why that is?

If you’ve already got the software, you need to get a compatible interface that you can plug into and itself plugs into your computer. There are some as cheap as $30 brand new.

While it sounds like a big time-saver to record instrument and vocal simultaneously, it can be a nightmare if something goes wrong. It’s really best to just record the tracks separately.

You can pretty much plug the keyboard into the interface and let rip.

Vocals are much more complicated to record because of the inconsistency of the human voice. You should have a shock-mounted mike, a pop filter, and some sort of compression patch or software that allows you to control the dynamic range of the vocal (this prevents clipping and makes the overall track sound much more even).

There is a wealth of knowledge on the internet and scads of books on recording.
